SINGAPORE, 16 APRIL 2013 - MTV today announced that The Temper Trap will be featured in the sixth instalment of MTV Sessions taking place at Resorts World Sentosa’s Waterfront Studio on 16 May. The five-member group will rock the stage with songs from their latest self-titled album which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Charts in May last year and contained tracks such as “Need Your Love” and “Trembling Hands”. A limited number of tickets to this exclusive showcase will be given away through contests on MTV’s website and Resorts World Sentosa’s Facebook page.
The Temper Trap, consisting of frontman Dougy Mandagi on vocals and guitar, Lorenzo Sillitto on guitar, Jonny Aherne on bass, and Toby Dundas on drums found success with their 2009 debut album Conditions. The album sold nearly a million copies worldwide and led to a BRIT Award nomination for International Breakthrough Artist and two sold-out tours in the U.K. They burst onto the scene with hit single “Sweet Disposition” which made it into the soundtrack of U.S. romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer and was named Most Popular Australian Single at the 2010 APRA Music Awards.
The Temper Trap’s self-titled album was produced after they expanded to a five-piece outfit with the addition of keyboardist and guitarist Joseph Greer. It reveals a record of two distinct personalities, one of melancholic, mesmeric balladry and one of synth-led, anthemic powerhouse pop. For this, the band picked up the Best Rock Album and Best Rock Group awards at the 2012 ARIA Awards. The Temper Trap opened for Coldplay’s concert tour of Australia and New Zealand in November 2012. They last performed in Singapore during Laneway Festival 2011 and were recently named as one of the supporting acts for The Rolling Stones’ 2013 world tour concert on 6 July in Hyde Park, London.
MTV Sessions is taped live in front of a 200-strong studio audience. It is a series of music shows created for regional and international entertainers to showcase their craft in a state-of-the-art studio environment. On top of performing their own songs, the artists also entertain audiences with personal favourites of remixes and covers. MTV Sessions is presented by F&N Sparkling Drinks.

Resorts World Sentosa will be running a Facebook contest from 8 to 12 May to award passes. As part of the “WACKY WEDNESDAYS” series, fans will respond with their favourite song from The Temper Trap. Three entries will be chosen to win a pair of passes to attend the live event.
MTV Sessions is shot at Resort World Sentosa’s Waterfront Studio, a purpose-built TV studio located at the waterfront of the 49 hectare mega-resort. Fully treated for the best acoustic performance with state-of-the-art technology, and equipped with the latest in audio, lighting and full HD camera systems, the studio space is optimal for production recordings with a live audience.
*MTV Sessions with The Temper Trap will premiere on MTV SEA Saturday, 1 June at 11.30am (WIB), 12.30pm (SG/HK/PH) and 1.30pm (MAL) with additional content available online at www.mtvasia.com/mtvsessions.
The Temper Trap’s 2009 debut ‘Conditions’ was a roar away success. Propelled by the omniscience of a song called ‘Sweet Disposition’, the album sold nearly a million copies worldwide. The Melbourne four-piece made a breakthrough at odds with the flash-in-the-pan nature of rock’s revolving door, resulting in a BRIT Award nomination for International Breakthrough Artist and two sell-out UK tours including a trio of shows at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire.
Dougy Mandagi (vocals, guitar), Lorenzo Sillitto (guitar), Jonny Aherne (bass) and Toby Dundas (drums) had barely relocated from Melbourne to London when they made a tour bus their home-from-home. They’d arrived in 2009 as a band wet behind the ears but armed with songs fit to headline festivals and an ambition that was keen on getting them there. Having recorded ‘Conditions’ with Arctic Monkeys producer Jim Abbiss, their debut was released in August 2009 and what followed was an extensive period of intensive, relentless touring that only ended at the beginning of 2011.
And so, it was in these triumphant circumstances that The Temper Trap, now bolstered to a five-piece with the permanent addition of Joseph Greer on keyboards, reconvened after a shorter-than-expected holiday to begin work on their second album. What emerges is their self-titled second album, a record of two distinct personalities, one of melancholic, mesmeric balladry and one of synth-led, anthemic powerhouse pop. Their trick isn’t that perfunctory, though; most songs on ‘The Temper Trap’ see the band’s two disparate sides bleed into each other.
At the centre of everything is the charismatic, enigmatic Mandagi and that voice, a swooping croon that could lift a 747. The Indonesian-born, Melbourne-raised, London-living frontman is the driving force behind The Temper Trap’s recurring theme of displacement. It’s exactly the sort of juxtaposition that makes ‘The Temper Trap’ such an intriguing listen. It’s a snapshot of a band blossoming, their songs matching their own skyscraping expectations. Check them out on their website, Facebook page and Twitter.
