SINGAPORE, 26 JUNE 2018 – Bring out the coolers because this year’s August heatwave is about to soar in Singapore! Hyperplay, the first integrated ASEAN esports and music festival, revealed today multi-platinum, Grammy and Golden Globe nominated recording artist, actor and award-winning songwriter Nick Jonas, will sizzle the MTV Spotlight stage at Hyperplay on Sunday, 5 August 2018.


Jonas will join the following previously announced acts:

·        4 August: South Korea’s CL and Singapore’s The Sam Willows

·        5 August: Thailand’s Slot Machine and Indonesia’s Afgan


Stay tuned for an upcoming announcement of the sixth and final act who will complete the stellar performers’ line-up for MTV Spotlight @ Hyperplay!


Hyperplay is a one-of-a-kind festival that synergizes esports and music, to deliver a new entertainment experience for the audience. The excitement mounts on 4 August, where the first League of Legends Semi-finals will kick off the festival before The Sam Willows take the stage for their half-time set. This will be followed by the second Semi-finals and then by CL, to close Day 1 with a bang. Stay tuned for 5 August, as performances by Afgan and Slot Machine will continue the music high, to set the mood for the Finals and the eventual League of Legends winner. As a festival finale, celebrate with Nick Jonas and the upcoming sixth act at the first ever integrated esports and music event in the region.


In celebration of ASEAN Singapore 2018 and part of YOUTHx, Hyperplay is powered by Riot Games and MTV, presented by the Singapore Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the National Youth Council (NYC) of Singapore, and supported by gold sponsor Clear Men and official Telco partner Singtel. Patrons will be able to catch full set live performances by all acts for the MTV Spotlight stage hosted by MTV VJ Hanli Hoefer. The two-day ticketed event will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday, 4 August 2018 and Sunday, 5 August 2018.

The American singer-songwriter and actor, also known as one-third of the Jonas Brothers, has sold over 17 million albums worldwide and was nominated for the ‘Best New Artist’ at the Grammys in 2008. Nick Jonas released his self-titled debut album in November 2014, featuring the triple-platinum and #1 U.S. radio hit, “Jealous” and the sultry chart-climbing radio single, “Chains”.


A recipient of the Songwriters Hall of Fame's prestigious Hal David Starlight Award, Jonas released another album “Last Year Was Complicated” in June 2016. This included the platinum hit "Close" featuring Tove Lo, and debuted as the #1 selling album of the week. Jonas also co-wrote an original song titled “Home” for the movie FERDINAND, which was nominated as “Best Original Song” in the 2018 Golden Globes. Most recently, he teamed up with platinum record producer Mustard, for their newest single “Anywhere”, which was performed at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards on 18 June in Los Angeles.


As an actor, Jonas garnered unanimous critical praise for his lead role in the 2016 Sundance Film Festival favorite “Goat”. He also appeared in a guest-starring role in horror-comedy series, "Scream Queens”. Jonas was also seen alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black in “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”. Jumanji is Sony’s highest grossing film of all time. He most recently completed production on post-apocalyptic thriller, “Chaos Walking” which is scheduled for release in March 2019.



Following the Singapore Qualifiers, which took place earlier this month, Team Sovereign has emerged as the country’s representative at the first ever League of Legends ASEAN competition happening at Hyperplay.


Team Sovereign will now gear up to compete against nine other ASEAN representatives as the teams clash head-on in two days of intense League of Legends matches on the Hyperplay main stage, where the one team will walk away with the title of ASEAN Champion.

Streaming live across the two-day ticketed event on Hyperplay.sg, with key segments broadcast live across Southeast Asia, the first edition of Hyperplay will feature the first ever League of Legends ASEAN tournament with national teams from the 10 ASEAN countries.



From 11 June – 8 July 2018, fans around ASEAN1 just need to complete a simple challenge each week. The most creative entry across the contest period will win the grand prize2 of a trip to Singapore comprising of a flight and accommodation package2 and a pair of coveted Hyperplay tickets to experience all the gaming and music action at Hyperplay in Singapore. Simply submit a photo or video entry related to the weekly challenge on Facebook or Instagram and tag #WitnessHistoryAtPlay and @hyperplayofficial.
